Performance opportunities at Summer School

The Harvard Summer School offers a number of opportunities for both students and residents of the Greater Boston area to perform as members of the Harvard Summer Pops Band, the Harvard Summer School Chorus, or the Harvard Summer School Orchestra.
Harvard Summer Pops Band, Thomas G. Everett, Director
This year the Harvard Summer Pops Band announces its 35th season. The band is open, without audition or fees, to all brass, woodwind, and percussion musicians regardless of age or experience.
- Auditions: None. Interested individuals are advised to come to the first rehearsal with instrument and, if possible, a folding music stand. Participants are encouraged to arrive at the first rehearsal early to meet the conductors and fellow section members.
- Rehearsals: Wednesdays, 7:15–9:30 pm, June 27 through August 1, Sanders Theatre, Harvard University
- Performances: Wednesday, August 1, 4 pm, on the steps of Memorial Church, Harvard Yard
Sunday, August 5, 3 pm, Hatch Memorial Shell on the Esplanade, Boston - Program: The Harvard Summer Pops Band concert this year is “Celebrating the Centennial of Leroy Anderson’s Birth.” We will be featuring Anderson’s works such as Blue Tango, Bell of the Ball, Sand Paper Ballet, and Typewriter. Music of Wagner, Sibelius, and Holst will also be performed.

Harvard Summer School Chorus, Jameson Marvin, Director
The chorus is open by audition to all Greater Boston community singers and Harvard Summer School students.
- Auditions: Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24, 1–4 pm; Monday, June 25, 2–5 pm and 6–9 pm. All auditions are in Holden Chapel, Harvard Yard.
- Rehearsals: Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 to 9:30 pm, beginning June 26.
- Performance: Friday, August 3
- Program: Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Mozart’s Veni Sancte Spiritus

Harvard Summer School Orchestra, Judith Zuckerman, Director
The orchestra is composed of approximately 60 players and performs works from the classical repertoire.
- Auditions: Tuesday, June 26, through Thursday, June 28, 5–9 pm, Memorial Hall 038
- Rehearsals: Mondays, 6:30–9 pm, Sanders Theater. Students registered in classes that meet Monday evenings should not join the Orchestra.
- Performance: Saturday, August 11
- Program: The concert will feature music by Aaron Copland, William Grant Still, and Charles Ives.
