Financial Aid
Update: We are no longer accepting financial aid applications from students who require on-campus housing. There are limited funds still available for students who live within commuting distance of Cambridge.
SSP student financial aid is limited, and therefore, early application is strongly advised. Only accepted students who are US citizens or permanent residents may receive financial aid. Awards are granted on the basis of academic merit, financial need, and availability. Preference is given to high school juniors.
The financial aid application consists primarily of (1) the 2005-06 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and (2) supporting federal tax returns and W2 forms through the College Board Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC).
- Although the FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for federal funds by colleges and universities, the SSP uses this information only to determine Summer School Scholarship eligibility. 2005-06 FAFSA applications may be submitted online as early as January 1, 2005 (please enter school code E00209 in step six); paper copies can also be mailed to you upon request from the SSP office. Please note that paper FAFSAs must be submitted to the Federal Student Aid Program, P.O. Box 4691, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864-0059, not to the SSP. If parents/students are completing a FAFSA before completing their 2004 federal tax returns, they should estimate the tax figures on the FAFSA. The figures can be corrected later if necessary. Be sure to complete the 2005-06 FAFSA (as opposed to the 2004-05 FAFSA).
- Once the SSP has received the report of your FAFSA data, you will receive a letter and pre-printed cover sheet from the College Board Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC) letting you know how to submit the additional financial information (tax returns and W2 forms) necessary for determining financial aid eligibility. To ensure prompt processing of your financial aid information, you must mail the pre-printed IDOC cover sheet along with all requested documents to the College Board in one envelope-multiple packets/mailings will not be accepted. Please note that you can submit your information to FAFSA before applying to the SSP if you wish.
The College Board is a not-for-profit membership association whose mission is to connect students to college success and opportunity. Harvard Summer SSP has contracted with the College Board IDOC to collect parents' and students' supporting financial data/information. All information is confidential and will be sent to the SSP only to determine your financial aid eligibility.
Completed financial aid applications are processed by the SSP on a rolling basis, but only as long as financial aid is available. No financial aid applications are processed after May 31.
